16I Fitness Center
At Southern we have a fitness center that is open Monday- Thursday 7-10pm, Fridays 7-8pm, Saturdays 9:30-4:30 pm, and 2-7pm Sundays. It is located on the second floor of the adanti center which is the student center. The cost for the fitness center is $60 per semester and $25 during the summer. One class that I am interested in taking next semester is Zumba. I have always wanted to try a class like that, but haven't had the chance yet so we will see how it goes!
The fitness center has about 20-25 machines. They either are weight training machines, plate loaded equipment or free weights. All the classes at the fitness center are free with a membership and there are rooms to stretch. It is a great way to let loose and get rid of stress when school stresses us out!
16V FREEDOM
FREEDOM…. Is probably the best thing you want to hear and can't wait for it to happen when you're in school. Now that there is only one week of left of school which are finals, freedom is what every student is looking forward to which is our winter break. Being piled with workloads and last minute assignments is what finals week is all about. Freedom means to have the power to speak, act and think whatever you want and that is what winter break is all about! Seeing your high school friends and not having to worry about school work or studying for a month is the greatest feeling ever.
Considering we only have one day of classes this week there are no new words this week so I am going to take words from last week that I have learned. African trypanosomiasis which means sleeping sickness is a sickness that is only found in Africa that causes you to become very ill and be very weak. And Bovine spongiform encephalopathy which means mad cow disease is a fatal disease that cannot be cured that is caused by eating cow brain or the spine of the cow.
16A&B Evaluating My First Semester
It is crazy to think how fast my first semester of
college has gone by. Thinking back to August where I came in as a scared
freshman looking forward to college and the experience it gives us. Academic
wise, I was prepared to get loads of homework and long nights of studying for
classes. As a college student so far I have learned that college is what you
make it. If you want to study and do well in school it is up to you and if you
don't want to study and do well then you don't. The fate of our academic careers
and actual careers in our future is in our hands. Being familiar with the most
of the campus is more comfortable then when in August I was lost wherever I
stood. My learning process has changed for the better. I believe that since I
am a nursing major I have to put forth ALL of my time and effort into getting
the grades I need. Being a freshman is hard getting used to be able to do
whatever we want whenever, which can hurt some of sometimes.
Looking at my grades for all my classes, I believe
that my biggest achievement is that I have basically all A's and B's in all my
classes except for one. Obviously our first semester of college is the easiest,
but no matter what we have to put in the effort to make sure we get the grades
we want. The biggest challenge for me this semester has been trying to get the
C+ I need in my microbiology class. Being a nursing major my grades for the
classes for nursing is where I need to do my best on, but it also has been
hard. Next semester all my classes I am taking are classes that are required to
be taken for pre nurses so it is going to be a challenge to keep up with good
grades, but it is not impossible. Getting into the nursing program is all I
want so I have to leave the partying ways and late nights out more in order to
focus on school.
Time management has never really been a problem for
me. Even if it has to deal with school, work or other things I have always made
sure that I make time for everything I need. Coming to college has been a great
change in my academic life, but a change that I do like and am taking advantage
of. Making time for school, homework, studying, work and other things has been
pretty easy for me. I am not going to lie there are days where I should be
doing work rather than going out, but it has not affected me in a negative way
towards my academics. I usually get my work done right after it is assigned and
try to so that I have more time to relax or do other workloads of homework that
needs to get done. Even if you are not that great at managing time I think that
college does prepare you for that in your first semester. You learn how to
manage time and need to learn your priorities if you want to succeed in
college.
Overall, my college experience has been great. I believe that I am
leaning towards the right path and continue to use the resources the school
provides us and use everything I have learned to apply to my daily life or in
other classes. I still have a long ways to go for my nursing career, but I am
prepared to do whatever I need to do to make my career possible. College is
where we learn from mistakes and learn many new things so make it fun on the
way because college only comes around once!

15V How Many More Words Can We Learn?
When you hear autonomy what comes to mind?
When I hear autonomy I can't even picture anything
in my head. To be honest I have never heard this word before. BUT now that I
have researched the meaning of it I will tell you. It means to have
independence or freedom. You control whatever you want to do. And to be honest
this has to do with us as college students. We are no longer dependent on our
parents when we are at school because we have to do everything on our own. If
we want to do homework and study we will and if we don't then we won't. Our
education is up to us now and no one else.
We have to take advantage of this opportunity and
make the best of it because this is what is going to help us in our future
careers and lives.
A couple words I learned today in microbiology are
carbuncle and impetigo. Carbuncle means inflammation of the tissue under the
skin while impetigo means crusting and sores that’s spread by autoinoculation.
15I Tis the Christmas Season!
Today my friends and I baked cooked being in the Christmas
mode that we were in. Considering that today being Monday my roommates and I
don't have many classes in order to de stress ourselves we made Christmas
cookies. To begin with I am not that creative, but my roommates definitely have
some talent!
We made the chocolate chip cookies and the snicker
doodles from scratch, but the other ones we went to buy a kit for. I know we
are not that creative, but it was something creative to do with each other
before we part our ways for the winter break. It was fun afternoon of laughs
and stories about our thanksgiving break that it definitely helped forget about
all the schoolwork we had and finals we have to study for, at least for a
little while. The cookies we made from scratch came out delicious and obviously
so did the one we just decorated. It was nice to catch up with one another and
something creative to do with each other!
15B The Semester is Already Over?
Thinking about how this fall semester is already
over is probably the weirdest thing to think about for me. I cannot believe
that I have completed my first semester of college already and makes me one
step closer to what I want to do.
Having only 2 more weeks of this semester left
everyone is cramming trying to get last minute schoolwork done and preparing to
study for finals. For me, the only finals I am worried about are my
microbiology lecture and lab final. I have my lab final this week and have
started to study today. It isn't too much to know, but I need to get a good
grade in order to get that C+ that I want so badly. Also, my lecture final is
an accumulative final so I have to know EVERYTHING since day 1, which is scary.
I have started to look over the first couple of chapters that we started off
with. It has refreshed my memory, but I also want to get together with some
people in my class to for a group study session because those help me so much
better. I am nervous and will not stop being nervous until I know my final
grade for that class.
The rest of my classes I am not too worried about because math is a good
subject of mine and the other classes we do not have hard finals. I am just
going to make sure that I put time aside for each chapter for micro and also
for my other classes. I cannot wait till this semester is over because I for
sure need a break, but these next 2 weeks are going to be crazy!
