It is crazy to think how fast my first semester of
college has gone by. Thinking back to August where I came in as a scared
freshman looking forward to college and the experience it gives us. Academic
wise, I was prepared to get loads of homework and long nights of studying for
classes. As a college student so far I have learned that college is what you
make it. If you want to study and do well in school it is up to you and if you
don't want to study and do well then you don't. The fate of our academic careers
and actual careers in our future is in our hands. Being familiar with the most
of the campus is more comfortable then when in August I was lost wherever I
stood. My learning process has changed for the better. I believe that since I
am a nursing major I have to put forth ALL of my time and effort into getting
the grades I need. Being a freshman is hard getting used to be able to do
whatever we want whenever, which can hurt some of sometimes.
Looking at my grades for all my classes, I believe
that my biggest achievement is that I have basically all A's and B's in all my
classes except for one. Obviously our first semester of college is the easiest,
but no matter what we have to put in the effort to make sure we get the grades
we want. The biggest challenge for me this semester has been trying to get the
C+ I need in my microbiology class. Being a nursing major my grades for the
classes for nursing is where I need to do my best on, but it also has been
hard. Next semester all my classes I am taking are classes that are required to
be taken for pre nurses so it is going to be a challenge to keep up with good
grades, but it is not impossible. Getting into the nursing program is all I
want so I have to leave the partying ways and late nights out more in order to
focus on school.
Time management has never really been a problem for
me. Even if it has to deal with school, work or other things I have always made
sure that I make time for everything I need. Coming to college has been a great
change in my academic life, but a change that I do like and am taking advantage
of. Making time for school, homework, studying, work and other things has been
pretty easy for me. I am not going to lie there are days where I should be
doing work rather than going out, but it has not affected me in a negative way
towards my academics. I usually get my work done right after it is assigned and
try to so that I have more time to relax or do other workloads of homework that
needs to get done. Even if you are not that great at managing time I think that
college does prepare you for that in your first semester. You learn how to
manage time and need to learn your priorities if you want to succeed in
college.
Overall, my college experience has been great. I believe that I am
leaning towards the right path and continue to use the resources the school
provides us and use everything I have learned to apply to my daily life or in
other classes. I still have a long ways to go for my nursing career, but I am
prepared to do whatever I need to do to make my career possible. College is
where we learn from mistakes and learn many new things so make it fun on the
way because college only comes around once!
